Space Dolphin Release 2nd Single Energy (Feat. Harleighblu). Release Date - 15/05/2021

After a great response to our first single "À La Roi" from our forthcoming debut album "More Than Soul", we are back again with a second single from the LP. This time it's a hip-hop/soul groover called "Energy" and is graced by the vocal presence of Nottingham musical royalty - the queen of the hip-hop/soul herself, singer Harleighblu.

Having performed within the same circles for many years, we finally established a friendship at the regionals for We Out Here Festival in 2019. This track came about from an open-cypher during their Nottingham single launch of 2020’s releases "Smoking Kills" and "Wet Paint", just before the first lockdown. Space Dolphin regularly invite rappers and singers within the audience to cypher on top of our beats. It just so happened that Harleighblu graced the stage that night with her presence after she shredded some Erykah Badu-isms over the beat that would become "Energy"; both parties knew they had to collaborate more professionally. So here it is.

You can expect a strong and passionate vocal performance from Harleighblu, who sings of the powerful energy of love, with a wall of harmony and intricate melody which only serves to heighten the lyrics. The beat itself is a nod to all things boombap - a straight ahead 90bpm breakbeat/MPC flex with fat and intricate synth bass, acoustic piano runs and chops, phased rhodes and arrangements of saxophone, flute and vibraphones that bring a dusty jazz flavour to the record.

A different jam to the debut jazzy hip-hop of "À La Roi" featuring MotorMouf - which itself had great radio support support on Jazz FM (Tony Minvielle), Totally Wired Radio (Bob Hill, Marcus Agerman Ross), 1BTN (Lee Bright), Shoreditch Radio (Mr Boogie), Noods Radio (Worm Disco Club), Mimms Radio (DJ Wrighty), Shizzle FM Australia (Andrew Haigh) and Radio Skop (DJ Jazzysad) - but no doubt many of you will be feeling this second single too.
